2008 Grant Proposal Details

Graphing Calculators

North Eugene High-IDEAS

Sponsored by:  Grants Fund

Author:  Patricia  Peterson

Total: $500

Description:  There is a need for our Advanced Algebra level to have technology integrated in their project based learning. My classroom would benefit from a class-set of 6-8 TI-83 or TI-84 graphing calculators.

Why is this important?  In our school, students often work together in teams to solve real-world problems. The use of graphing calculators would assist students to visualize a variety of problems from growth and decay problems, financial models, data collection, and cyclic models.

Who will be served?  This will affect all advanced algebra classes. As a shared resource, it would benefit the Geometry and Algebra I classes as well.

How will this be evaluated?  Teams of students will be expected to demonstrate proficiency by modeling results under the document camera for the class.

Does this build on existing programs?  Yes, we do have some calculators available for students, but very few graphing calculators. At present, there are no graphing calculators in my class available to share.

Budget:  Supplies: 6-8 TI-83/84 graphing calculators
