Homework Plus!   Coburg Elementary

Description:  Coburg Elementary is requesting funds for Homework Plus! This afterschool enrichment program is to be held weekly, October through May, with a regular schedule of healthy snacks, intensive homework assistance, followed by the "Plus!" The primary purpose is to provide additional homework support through the partnership of parents, students and teachers. The Plus! portion provides incentives which are educational in nature, to encourage the students in reaching their homework goals. These Plus! activities include pottery, culinary arts, cultural appreciation, mad science and field trips and includes special guests.

Why is this important?  As a small rural elementary school, Coburg has students who are identified as needing special support in completing homework assignments and projects. This afterschool program gives incentive to those students who need the extra motivation to stay on task. By offering the Plus! the students work to complete their Homework.

Who will be served?  The proposed program is designed for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders who are referred by teachers as needing specific homework assistance. The program, however, is open to any interested student. We expect to reach approximately 1/3 of our students in these upper grades.

How will this be evaluated?  We will monitor the homework completion rates in coordination with the teachers and students, using before and after data. In addition, we will chart the participation and achievement of each student in our class.

Does this build on existing programs?  This program has been offered through Coburg Community Connections, and is totally dependent on donations and grants in order to continue.
