2008 Grant Proposal Details
Total: $1984 Description: Coburg Elementary School's "Teaching with Technology" project is designed to integrate, support and differentiate teacher instruction and student learning through the use of multimedia technology. This project is part of Coburg Site Council's long-term School Improvement Plan to provide state-of-the-art technology within each classroom environment. This grant request is for funding in the amount of $1,984.00 for the purchase of 1 SMARTBoard and 2 Document Cameras. Why is this important? Coburg Teachers, Site Council and the Parent Group (PCS) are in accord as to the key role that technology is playing in education, in our society and in our global marketplace. Teachers and students alike must be fluent in the use of the many tools of technology available now and in the future. The "core" curriculum areas of reading, writing and math can become "interactive" and "hands-on" through the use of SMARTBoard technology. Student learning can be made more specific through differentiated instruction available in this multimedia format. It is the goal of parents and teachers that students at Coburg have as "standard" classroom equipment SMARTBoard technology. In working toward this goal, each teacher currently has a laptop computer, SMARTBoard software and a projector...the necessary prerequisites for the use of the interactive white board. The District Math Technology grant provided Coburg School with 2 Document Cameras. Teaching staff received inservice training on the many uses of these document cameras. The document cameras do so much more than the overhead projectors of the past. We have discovered that once a teacher uses this device that it becomes a daily use item. It also has the capability of saving images and information to the teacher's computer. Who will be served? We are planning to use the SMARTBoard, interactive white board, in the Primary classroom wing of the school. This includes 65 students in grades 1, 2 and 3. The 2 Document Cameras will be available to the Kindergarten, 1st and 5th grade Teachers. 60 students will benefit from the classroom use of the Document Cameras. How will this be evaluated? The success of this project will be evaluated by the use of these tools of technology. Teachers will be asked to complete a survey indicating frequency of use, curriculum areas of use, and types of student participation. Does this build on existing programs? Yes, this proposal builds upon Site Council school improvement goals; school participation in the 4J District Technology TIP grant/staff development; and parent group support.
