2008 Grant Proposal Details
Total: $2000 Description: Purchase 20 TI-83 Plus Graphing Calculators and make available to low SES students to check out through library. Why is this important? This project is important in order to provide equal opportunity to low SES students and giving them the tools to succeed in upper-level (college preparatory) courses. With the proper tools, the can begin to break down barriers to the belief that they CAN do more, opening the doors to so much more opportunity. This would also address the Eugene School District 4J’s Task Force Recommendations in the area of Technology by providing every math student ready access to appropriate technology to enhance mathematics learning. Who will be served? Low SES students who cannot afford to buy the calculator. Approximately 20 – 40 students per year can be served. How will this be evaluated? An increase in the number of low SES students enrolled in higher level class and improved AYP grade in mathematics. There will be an increased number of students using appropriate technology as we move toward our goal of ALL students. Does this build on existing programs? We are currently working with a SLC Grant. One of our goals and objectives with this grant is to create and expand rigorous and equitable programs of study with high expectations for all students. Specifically, one of our objectives is to increase the number of all students from traditionally under-represented groups enrolled in honors, IB, Higher Math, and dual credit classes. For these students to succeed in these classes, they must have the tools to get there. Budget: Equipment: $2000 = 20 calculators @ $100 per calculator Proposal #: 23 |
