2008 Grant Proposal Details
Total: $500 Description: César E. Chávez Elementary would like to purchase a "SMARTBoard". A SMARTBoard is a presentation devise that interfaces with a computer. The computer images are displayed on the board by a digital projector, where they can be seen and manipulated. Why is this important? SMARTBoards allow educators to integrate computer based learning activities throughout their core curriculum. SMARTBoards are great for classroom demonstrations and modeling key software, not only for students but also for staff development. SMARTBoards use technology to engage all learning styles through interactive lessons. Tactile learners benefit from touching and marking on the Board. Auditory learners benefit from the rich class discussions generated by the use of the Board. Visual learners can see what is taking place as it develops at the Board. Research indicates that students respond to displays where color is utilized. The SMARTBoard allows for multiple colors as well as highlighting features. Students with limited motor skills can be successful because of the large format, making it easier for them to run programs. Who will be served? Instructors can maximize the use of limited computers access by using the SMARTBoard. All of our classrooms have access to laptop computers and projectos. The SMARTBoard will make it possible for one computer to serve an entire classroom of learners. How will this be evaluated? We will include survey questions about the experiences surrounding SMART Board technology in our annual staff, student and family surveys. Does this build on existing programs? In order to carry out the goals of our school improvement plan, we have invested resources in the continual technology training of our staff; purchasing hardware and software; and developing an ongoing technology plan. Acquiring a SMART Board would allow us to continue making progress towards these goals. Last year we were fortunate to add two SMART Boards to our school through EEF Grants. These SMART Boards are currently used in the intermediate grades. I made a committment to our primary teachers that my goal was to prioritize purchasing SMART Boards for their classrooms. Our goal, and challenge, is to place a SMARTBoard in every classroom at César E. Chávez Elementary. We want all of our students to benefit from this technology. I want all of our teachers to have access to this incredible instructional tool. Budget: SMARTBoard Interactive White Board 680 SB680 - $1199.00 Funds can be matched with limited school funds.
