Multi Sensory Technology Supports   Buena Vista Elementary

Description:  Buena Vista School seeks a grant of $2,000 to effectively use technology to improve 1st-5th g rade student educational experience. We propose to purchase 2 interactive whiteboards (Smart Boards). A Smart board is a touch-sensitive screen that works in conjunction with a computer and a projector. The Board allows students to hear, touch see and manipulating information for enhanced learning activities. Since the Smart Board promotes a favorable interactive learning approach , we want a Smart board in every classroom. Teachers will use the smart board to model and involve students in learning Spanish vocabulary, writing, math, reading, science and social studies activities. We will use the Smart Board in conjunction with soft ware, web based teaching content such as Raz Kids, Learning 360 as well as hundreds of already prepared Smart Board Activities.

Who will be served?  As these Smart Boards will be on wheels, they will be shared with 6 classrooms, supporting over 150 students in the first, second, fourth and fifth grade classrooms.

How will this be evaluated?  Teachers using the Smart board in their classroom will work with the building Technology team. They will be observed by a member of the tech team and supported by them to learn how to best use the Smart board. The tech team member will give feedback to the teachers receiving the Smart board. The tech team members will receive support from the district tech team.

Does this build on existing programs?  At Buena Vista, technology is integrated throughout our curriculum. Students learn and develop computer skills from a Technology Specialist in our fully-equipped iMac lab. We also frequently use our Computer on Wheels in classrooms to enhance reading, writing, math, and project learning. Every teacher uses a laptop, projector and docucam for instruction. The Smart Board for every teacher is the next step in equipping our teachers with effective technology for teaching. .
